A595 Grizebeck Improvement Scheme – Upcoming closures of the A595 through Grizebeck Village

We are writing to inform you of two upcoming road closure on the A595 at Grizebeck Village, which will take place over the following weekends:

  • Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd February

  • Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February

The road closures are necessary to facilitate the construction of the bridge and temporary road that is being built parallel to the existing route. Traffic will be diverted onto this temporary road for approximately six months.

These closures are essential to ensure the safety of site operatives and all road users. The road will be closed from 7:00 AM on Saturday until 5:00 PM on Sundayover the course of both weekends.

Please be assured that after these closures, there are no planned weekend closures for the next few months. However, whilst some disruptions will be unavoidable, our Contractor is planning their works to minimise these as far as possible.

The signed diversionary route will be via the A5092, A590 and A595 through Greenodd, Ulverston and Askam in Furness. Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to pass with assistance from the site operatives during normal working hours.

We have chosen to carry these works out over a weekend to minimise the impact on road users, taking account of school traffic and commuters as far as reasonably practicable.

We would like to thank you for your continued patience, whilst the work is ongoing.

We will keep you updated as we continue our works via the Westmorland and Furness website, our social media pages and the A595 Grizebeck Project mailing list which you can sign up to by emailing:
